Course content

  • Statistics and statistical research
  • Software support for statistical analysis of data and models
  • Empirical frequency distributions
  • Measures of central tendency and measures of variation
  • Measures of the shape of the distribution
  • Measures of concentration Simple linear regression, method of least squares, measures of model representativeness
  • Indices and measurement of evolution
  • Time series – trend models

Objective of the course

Mastering basic statistical methods and models and their application in economics.

 

Conducting classes

Lectures and exercises are conducted with the use of teaching aids, schemes and graphic displays, as well as active learning techniques with the active participation of students. Emphasis is placed on practical examples and student interactivity, creating discussions about the subject problem with all students.

Exam

Students who pass the first test during the semester are required to pass the second test and an oral exam. The written part of the exam is a prerequisite for the final oral exam. Activities include discussion during class and preparation of a seminar paper (optional).

Competences

  • To be able to use basic statistical tools and programs in economic analyses.
  • To be able to group, present and analyze data, as well as interpret the results of the conducted analyses.
  • To be able to model relationships between economic variables using linear regression.
  • To be able to describe, monitor, explain and predict the movement of economic phenomena, using trend analysis.
