General information

The master's postgraduate study at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Zenica was launched as a response to constant changes in the local and wider environment that require the continuous creation of new values and highly educated experts who can creatively and successfully respond to challenges. The first generation of postgraduates was enrolled in the 2006/2007 academic year. The study lasts two years and consists of four semesters, and upon completion of the study, the title of Master of Economic Sciences is obtained.

The constant growth of knowledge in the field of economic sciences required frequent changes in curricula and adaptation to the new economic and social reality. In an effort to intensify as much as possible the activities on the international recognition of diplomas and the further implementation of the Bologna Process, the Faculty has, since the academic year 2009/2010. started with the implementation of a one-year master's study that lasts two semesters with a total of 60 ECTS credits.

The study is based on the adoption of modern scientific and research achievements in the field of economics and is intended primarily for graduates in economics, but also for all graduate students of other related faculties from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, who want to advance and improve their knowledge in this scientific field.

A candidate who completes the second cycle of studies acquires an academic title and the title of Master of Economics."

Study programs

The second study cycle is organized and carried out according to established study programs for certain study departments. The study programs are designed in accordance with the existing orientations and scientific fields that are studied in the first cycle of studies.

The study "Business Management" is intended for those who want to combine analytical knowledge from economics and business with practical knowledge and management skills. The result of this study should be not only future managers but also the so-called business analysts with excellent knowledge of the logic of business processes. This program first provides basic knowledge in economics, business and management, and then provides managerial knowledge and tools in certain areas such as: marketing management, operations management, information management, etc. In addition to the aforementioned knowledge, future managers are educated through quantitative subjects for the use of analytical methods and techniques in modern management.

The study "Accounting and audit management" is intended for those who want to combine analytical knowledge from economics and business with practical knowledge and skills studied in accounting. The result of this study should be not only future accountants but also the so-called business analysts with excellent knowledge of the logic of business processes and analysis of financial reports, which enables them to collect information for making business decisions. This program first provides basic knowledge in economics, business and management, and then provides accounting and auditing knowledge and tools in certain areas such as: internal auditing, financial reporting, cost accounting, etc.

The study "Local Economic Development and Policy" is intended for those who want to acquire the necessary knowledge and professional competences in the creation of development documents of local communities, and independently perform business analyzes and research processes in the private and public sector. Future Masters of Economics after completing the study program "Local Economic Development and Policy" will be able to respond to upcoming challenges in some closely specialized areas of vital interest for the development of local economic policies and management of planning processes of various development projects in the private sector, such as economic analysis, economic research, preparation of strategic documents for sustainable growth and development, i.e. management of processes of development of elements of entrepreneurial infrastructure and implementation of a series of necessary institutional reforms in countries in transition.

The study "Business and Public Finance" is intended for those who want to improve their acquired knowledge and skills in solving specific problems in the field of business and public finance in countries in transition. The study program is structured with the aim of covering several disciplines from the scientific field of finance, such as: banking and financial markets in development, public finance and budgeting, financial planning, analysis and control and models in financial management. After completing the "Business and Public Finance" study program, future masters of economics will be able to perform tasks such as: financial analysis, financial investments, risk management, budget creation and execution, assessment of the effectiveness, efficiency and economy of public financing, assessment of the effects of budget policies, financial management in the public sector, company valuation, investment management and management of business assets and company liabilities.

The main goal of the aforementioned study programs, in addition to the scientific and professional education of the Master of Economics in defined areas, is also oriented towards the continuation of further academic research within the framework of doctoral studies according to the Bologna model (the process of establishing a doctoral study is ongoing).

Master's thesis

The master's degree program ends with the passing of all exams, as well as the creation and public defense of the master's thesis in accordance with the study program and the Statute of the University.

The master's thesis represents the candidate's independent scientific-research and professional work, with which he shows that he has mastered a certain issue and that he can independently set and solve scientific-research and professional problems/tasks.

Curriculum

Teaching takes place through theoretical lectures, practical exercises, consultations, analysis of case studies, and writing essays.

Courses are classified into three groups: common courses, which are taken by all postgraduate students regardless of major, compulsory major courses and optional courses. This diversification enables flexibility and active participation of students in creating studies according to their own field of interest. The faculty reserves the right to make a decision at the beginning of each cycle for which elective subjects will be taught, based on the interest of the candidates and the available resources.
